Baseball Game Preview: Kalkaska Blazers vs. St. Mary Eagles

The Kalkaska Blazers will take on the St. Mary Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Kalkaska took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over Grayling. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Blazers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Noah Patnode was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Hunter Wilkinson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Ball, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Mary entered their tilt with Suttons Bay on Wednesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Norsemen a 4-0 shutout.

St. Mary's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Kalkaska, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-9.
