Baseball Recap: Del Norte Has No Trouble Against El Camino

Del Norte barely beat El Camino the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Nighthawks were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Wildcats on Thursday. The Nighthawks not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 17, 2024 (when they won 9-0).

Grey Gusich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aiden Sun, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Del Norte: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffen Gusich, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Del Norte has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for El Camino, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Del Norte will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
