Preview: Northwest Rankin Cougars vs. Canton Tigers
The Northwest Rankin Cougars are on the road again on Friday and play against the Canton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Northwest Rankin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Canton is ranked 17th).
Last Tuesday, Northwest Rankin came up short against Meridian and fell 52-44.
Meanwhile, Canton had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They walked away with a 49-36 win over Provine.
Canton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Shamira Morton out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. The match was Morton's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Na'Miya Davis, who scored 19 points.
Northwest Rankin bumped their record down to 5-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Canton, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
Everything came up roses for Northwest Rankin against Canton in their previous matchup back in March as the squad secured a 63-27 win. Does Northwest Rankin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Canton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
