Football Game Preview: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Goleman Gators

The Mater Lakes Academy Bears will challenge the Goleman Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Mater Lakes Academy 8.2, Goleman 5.2) so any points scored will be well earned.

Mater Lakes Academy's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 25-0 margin over Somerset Academy. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won four matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Valentina Builes looked great while leading her team to the win, throwing for 150 yards and two TDs, while also rushing for 36 yards.

Mater Lakes Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Vanessa Vancott, Patience Mosely, and Kassandra Rios picked up one apiece. Mosely got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Goleman beat Coral Reef 7-0 on Thursday. The final result isn't all the surprising considering the Gators' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Barracudas are ranked 250th).

Goleman is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 3.0 points on average over those games. As for Mater Lakes Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
