League recap: Cypress Ranch stuns Langham Creek in upset

5A Region III District 17 recap Oct. 3, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Langham Creek, who took down 141st ranked Langham Creek, 64-63.

Cy-Woods's Trent Holmes recorded the longest rushing play in 5A Region III District 17 this season in his game against Cypress Lakes last week. Holmes scampered for 74 yards on the play and finished with 95 on the day as his team defeated the Spartans.

Kyle Bohannon and Romeo Williams gave Cypress Lakes a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Bohannon threw for 136 yards and one touchdown, while Williams ran for 191 yards. Eli Epson also contributed to the rushing game with 45 yards on the ground.

Holmes was the best wideout in the league this week as Cy-Woods beat Robert Blackshear's team. Holmes racked up three receptions for 79 yards. Nick Hooper helped Cy-Woods' passing attack out by catching three balls for 45 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Nate German of Trent Faith's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 458. He has also thrown one touchdown. On the ground, the Spartans' Williams has rushed for 435 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Robert Sylvester. The Cypress Lakes star has 21 catches for 371 yards.

A big matchup in 5A Region III District 17 this week will be when the Lobos take on Cypress Falls. Langham Creek is in fourth place, while the Eagles are in first place.

Mason Roberts and Holmes provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Cypress Lakes. The connection was good for 65 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
