Baseball Recap: Deer Creek-Mackinaw Has No Trouble Against Clinton

After only one run in their last contest, Deer Creek-Mackinaw made sure to put some runs up on the board against Clinton on Saturday. The Chiefs blew past the Maroons 16-4. With that win, the Chiefs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Chase Noe looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Drew Swadinsky was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shaun Denniston, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Clinton, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-5.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw and Clinton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Chiefs will face off against Fieldcrest at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (376 vs. 168). Meanwhile, Clinton (ranked 343rd) will meet Warrensburg-Latham (ranked 103rd) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
