Basketball Recap: Maranatha Christian Find Success

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Maranatha Christian walked away with it. They snuck past the Coronado Islanders with a 54-48 win on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly six points.

Will Ralston continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. His big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Piester, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 11 points and eight boards.

Maranatha Christian's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-15. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points over those games. As for Coronado, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-17.

Looking ahead, Maranatha Christian will challenge Southwest SD at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southwest SD knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Maranatha Christian likes a good challenge. Coronado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
