Recap: York Prep Patriots vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers
It was a good run, but the York Prep Patriots unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 96-27 loss at the hands of Andrew Jackson. York Prep was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 65-14.
Despite the loss, York Prep still got an impressive performance from Payton Munsey, who scored 14 points.
Tamia Watkins continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Andrew Jackson, dropping a triple-double on 36 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Watkins has scored at least a third of Andrew Jackson's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayona Alexander, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.
York Prep now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Andrew Jackson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
York Prep won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cheraw at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Cheraw is ranked 170th, while York Prep is ranked 169th). As for Andrew Jackson, they will head out on the road to take on Chesterfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chesterfield is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
