Softball Recap: Kewanee Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Kewanee barely beat Erie-Prophetstown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Boilermakers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 6-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Boilermakers have won three games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Kalleigh Gale, who gave up just six hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Erie-Prophetstown off the board. Gale has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rylee Blades and Lily Lee did most of the damage at the plate: Blades scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Lee scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that Lee snagged this season. Kieryn Abernathy was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

Kewanee has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Erie-Prophetstown, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Kewanee will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
