Basketball Game Preview: McFarland Cougars vs. Shafter Generals

McFarland and Shafter are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The McFarland Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Shafter Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in McFarland's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 matches.

Last Thursday, McFarland didn't have too much trouble with Chavez as they won 68-49. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 488th, while the Titans are ranked 1130th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Shafter came up short against Taft on Friday and fell 43-35. The game marked the Generals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

McFarland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.9 points per game. As for Shafter, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

McFarland strolled past Shafter in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 61-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for McFarland since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
