Basketball Recap: Cheraw Takes a Loss

After flying high against Anson last Thursday, Cheraw came back down to earth. The Cheraw Braves were outmatched by the Scotland Fighting Scots and fell 67-34. The Braves were down 55-30 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Cheraw lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaleah Faulkner, who posted nine points. Anyah Banks was another key player, putting up nine points.

Scotland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madison Dixon led the charge by going 9 of 13 on her way to 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Dixon a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Morgan Thompson, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven assists and five boards.

Cheraw's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Scotland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Cheraw didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-21 win against North Central on the 7th. As for Scotland, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Whiteville at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Scotland's favor as the squad sits on ten straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Whiteville has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
