Softball Recap: Harrison Wildcats vs. East Central Trojans

After flying high against Edgewood last Thursday, Harrison came back down to earth. The Harrison Wildcats lost 16-8 to the East Central Trojans on Friday. Harrison was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as East Central apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

For East Central's part, Montana Plymale spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on 14 hits and racked up seven Ks. Plymale has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in seven consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Lexi Hatmaker and Delaney Donawerth did most of the damage at the plate: Hatmaker went 4-for-5 with a home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Donawerth went 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Klem, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6.

Harrison's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for East Central, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-4.

Harrison will play host again on Saturday to welcome Little Miami, where first pitch is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Little Miami is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season. As for East Central, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Shelbyville at 1:00 p.m. Shelbyville is coming into the contest with six straight wins on the road, so East Central will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
