Guilford waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Jefferson J-Hawks by a score of 4-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vikings also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.
Malia Welch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Amiyah Wyrick was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. California Welding also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-6. As for Jefferson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Guilford will head out to take on Belvidere at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jefferson, they will venture away from home to square off against Freeport at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pretzels will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
