Preview: Yerba Buena Aztec Warriors vs. Del Mar Dons
Yerba Buena is 2-8 against Del Mar since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Yerba Buena Aztec Warriors will look to defend their home court against the Del Mar Dons at 7:00 p.m. Yerba Buena is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Yerba Buena ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against James Lick by a score of 69-60. That's two games straight that Yerba Buena has won by exactly nine points.
Yerba Buena can attribute much of their success to Brylin Thomas, who scored 18 points, and Brandon Tran, who scored 18 points. It was the first time this season that Thomas scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Tran, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Del Mar was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 40-34 to Mt. Pleasant. Del Mar has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Yerba Buena's win bumped their record up to 5-18. As for Del Mar, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Yerba Buena came out on top in a nail-biter against Del Mar when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 53-50. Will Yerba Buena repeat their success, or does Del Mar have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
