Baseball Preview: Liberty Hurricanes vs. Freedom Patriots

Liberty has gone 9-1 against Freedom recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Hurricanes will face off against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Liberty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Liberty took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Nazareth Area, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hurricanes came out on top in a nail-biter against the Blue Eagles on Thursday, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hurricanes have posted against the Blue Eagles since April 26, 2022.

Liberty got a great performance from Michael Mariano Jr. as he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, Mariano Jr. posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

At the plate, Liberty saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Frey, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Freedom had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the Spartans 16-4. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Freedom got a massive performance out of Colin Andrews, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Patrick Kiefner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Freedom hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Freedom, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.

However, it's not like Freedom struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits.
