Basketball Recap: Summit Christian Academy Warriors vs. Varsity Opponent
The Summit Christian Academy Warriors had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past Varsity Opponent with a 53-48 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Summit Christian Academy also won the last time the pair played last Tuesday.
Summit Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Payton Hammond, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Hammond has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 14 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Wheeler, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Summit Christian Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Varsity Opponent, they are on a 19-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 354-1282-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summit Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the on February 3rd. Varsity Opponent is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home. As for they, they will head out on the road to face off against Rocky Hill Country Day at 5:30 a.m. on Friday.
