Softball Game Preview: Viewpoint Patriots vs. Archer School for Girls Panthers

The Viewpoint Patriots will square off against the Archer School for Girls Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Archer School for Girls will be up against a hot Viewpoint squad: the team just extended their winning streak to ten. The Patriots' pitcher stepped up to hand Crossroads a 15-0 shutout on Thursday.

Skylar Meehan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Viewpoint got a massive performance out of Summer Morgan, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those two triples gave Morgan a new career-high. Anniston Aragon was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Archer School for Girls, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Oakwood 13-4 on Thursday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Owls recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Viewpoint's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.1 runs this season. As for Archer School for Girls, their record is now 9-2.

Viewpoint beat Archer School for Girls 5-0 in their previous matchup on Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
