Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Avon Lake

While Avon Lake didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Chardon Hilltoppers 9-8. The win was nothing new for the Shoremen as they're now sitting on four straight.

The team relied heavily on Alex Soloff, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam McFadden, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Avon Lake pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chardon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon Lake will welcome Olmsted Falls at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.11 runs per game on average), something the Shoremen will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Chardon, they will host Kenston at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
