Baseball Game Preview: Princeton Tigers vs. Ottawa Pirates

The Princeton Tigers will square off against the Ottawa Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Princeton turned things around against Seneca on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Fighting Irish. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

William Lott was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 contests.

In other batting news, Princeton let Ace Christiansen and Noah LaPorte run wild. Christiansen went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while LaPorte went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Princeton is undefeated when LaPorte posts three or more hits, but 6-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jordan Reinhardt, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

Princeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Ottawa had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hubs a 9-0 shutout.

Princeton's victory bumped their record up to 9-12-1. As for Ottawa, their win bumped their record up to 15-13.

Princeton beat Ottawa 12-9 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
