Baseball Game Preview: Soldotna Stars vs. Colony Knights

The Soldotna Stars are taking a road trip to square off against the Colony Knights at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Colony took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Soldotna, who comes in off a win.

Soldotna saw some tournament action on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over West Valley.

Matthew Schilling was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Schilling wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trenton Ohnemus, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits Ohnemus has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Colony came up short against Service on Thursday and fell 6-2. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Like Soldotna, Colony also got a great game from a two-way player: Boman Marks. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. That one hit allowed gave Marks a new career-low. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Colony now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Soldotna, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6-1.

Soldotna skirted past Colony 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Stars repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
