Preview: Towner-Granville-Upham vs. Beach
Towner-Granville-Upham may have come out ahead in its last game, but it shouldn't get too cocky given who is up next. This Saturday it takes on Beach in the first playoff game of the year. Both teams are strolling into their matchup after big wins in their previous games.
Towner-Granville-Upham can now show off three landslide victories after its game last week. It had all the answers against North Star/Starkweather last week, winning 38 - 8. No one had a larger role in the success than junior Shayden Luna, who brought his A game into the contest. He ran for 205 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. Luna has been a consistent playmaker for Towner-Granville-Upham as this was the 5th good game in a row from him.
As for Beach, a win looked likely for it given its edge in the state rankings, but it did even better than expected last week. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Central McLean [Turtle Lake-Mercer/Underwood/McClusky] last week, finishing up at 48 - 8. At 40 points, that marked Beach's largest margin of victory so far this year.
Their wins bumped Beach to 6-2 and Towner-Granville-Upham to 6-3. We'll find out on Saturday which team can carry over its success and which team inevitably falls when Beach and Towner-Granville-Upham clash.
