Preview: Falkner Eagles vs. Smithville Seminoles
Falkner is 1-6 against Smithville since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Falkner Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Smithville Seminoles at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Falkner has six straight wins, Smithville has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Falkner can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They breezed by Ashland at home to the tune of 50-16. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Falkner had established a 26 point advantage.
Gavin Wooley and Chris Nunley were among the main playmakers for Falkner as the former threw for 216 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt and the latter gained 192 total yards and three touchdowns. Wooley hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for five straight games.
Meanwhile, Smithville came up short against West Lowndes on Thursday and fell 38-26.
Despite the defeat, Smithville had strong showings from Carson Spann, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns, and Barker O'Brian, who picked up 70 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Spann was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards.
Falkner's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 41.67 points. As for Smithville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Falkner ended up a good deal behind Smithville in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, losing 32-14. Will Falkner have more luck at home instead of on the road?
