Baseball Game Preview: Alameda Hornets vs. Castro Valley Trojans

For the second straight game, Alameda will face off against Castro Valley. The Hornets will head out to take on the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Alameda couldn't beat Castro Valley on Tuesday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Hornets took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. The loss continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost four in a row.

For Castro Valley's part, they got a great performance from Scott Baldwin as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Baldwin has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arthur Sims, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Anthony Mares was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Castro Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Castro Valley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Alameda, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
