Baseball Recap: Stevenson Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

Stevenson proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs 3-2. The Pirates have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs, too.

Phinn Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Hall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reggie Bell, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Stevenson's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Monte Vista Christian, they moved to 14-4 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Stevenson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
