Softball Recap: Elkin Takes a Loss

Elkin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 17-1 to the East Wilkes Cardinals, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.

Elkin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Cincotti, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Elkin's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for East Wilkes, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkin will host Mount Airy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Granite Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.22 runs per game on average), something the Buckin' Elks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Wilkes, they will be playing at home against South Stokes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Cardinals have won four straight at home, while the Sauras won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
