Volleyball Recap: Mayfield Wildcats vs. North Royalton Bears

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mayfield had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They skirted past the North Royalton Bears 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (107-103) Mayfield actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The final score came out to 25-23, 24-26, 12-25, 25-18, 17-15.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mayfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Frankie Coreno, who had 19 digs, three kills, and a block. Coreno is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 20 or more in the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Vivian Gerbasi, who had 25 digs.

Mayfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for North Royalton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-9 record this season.

Mayfield will head out to take on Olmsted Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mayfield is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. North Royalton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
