Morgan Township was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Michigan City on Saturday. The Cherokees blew past the Wolves 16-9. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cherokees as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Caleb Ksenak looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. He has become a key player for Morgan Township: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-9-1 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Walters, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Clint Lemmons, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Morgan Township always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Michigan City only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, Boone Grove came tearing into Saturday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won four matches by nine runs or more so far this season.
Javy Carrera made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carrera was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Boone Grove let Ben Truby and Seth Pitcock run wild. Truby went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Pitcock got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Pitcock is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last five games he's played. Daniel Veschak was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Morgan Township's record now sits at 3-10-1. As for Boone Grove, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Morgan Township has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Boone Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morgan Township couldn't quite get it done against Boone Grove in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can the Cherokees avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
