Softball Game Preview: Roosevelt Bears vs. Allen Park Jaguars

Roosevelt is 0-10 against Allen Park since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Bears will square off against the Jaguars at 4:30 p.m. One thing working in Roosevelt's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups.

On Thursday, Roosevelt made easy work of Edsel Ford and carried off a 16-1 win. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Shaylan Gourlay and Ellie Isenegger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gourlay tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Isenegger pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gourlay went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Isenegger went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was Isenegger's first of the season.

In other batting news, Grace Papler was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Cerda, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Allen Park duked it out with South Lyon East on Thursday. The Jaguars lost 8-1 to the Cougars. The game marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Allen Park saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexa Hawrot, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Roosevelt's record now sits at 9-2. As for Allen Park, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 9-2.

Roosevelt might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Allen Park in their previous matchup back in June of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
