Softball Recap: Newton Takes a Loss

Newton fell victim to Diboll and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Diboll Lumberjacks, falling 17-0. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Lumberjacks recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Diboll, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Newton and Diboll could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Newton will square off against Pollok Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 657 places (1024 vs. 367). Newton has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Similarly, Diboll (ranked 534th) will meet Huntington (ranked 120th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
