The Ellwood City Wolverine will venture away from home to challenge the Laurel Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ellwood City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.

Ellwood City is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Quaker Valley just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Quakers.

Maykel Cuevas was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Mills, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Laurel didn't have quite enough to beat Freedom Area on Tuesday and fell 5-3.

Laurel saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kolton Carlson, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Laurel's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 3.75 runs. As for Ellwood City, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Ellwood City came out on top in a nail-biter against Laurel when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 10-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverine since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
