Soccer Game Preview: Bourgade Catholic vs. Gilbert Christian

The Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles will head out to take on the Gilbert Christian Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Bourgade Catholic has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with five straight defeats, while Gilbert Christian will come in with three straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Bourgade Catholic's offense. They came up short against Seton Catholic last Tuesday, falling 11-0. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Sentinels are ranked 21st).

Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian kept a clean sheet against Parker on Wednesday. They blew past the Broncs 13-0. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by five goals or more this season.

Their offense was hitting Parker from everywhere, as nine different players booted in a goal. Caprice Chiuchiolo led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for four goals all by herself.

Gilbert Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 59 goals over those six games. As for Bourgade Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Bourgade Catholic might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Gilbert Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can Bourgade Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
