Baseball Game Preview: Prince of Peace Eagles vs. Pantego Christian Panthers

Prince of Peace is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will welcome the Pantego Christian Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Prince of Peace's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Heritage Christian as Prince of Peace made off with a 15-0 win. While Prince of Peace didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Cole Clendaniel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kesler Gehan, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Quinn Mayfield, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Prince of Peace kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Pantego Christian hadn't done well against Covenant Christian recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Pantego Christian was the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Covenant Christian.

Prince of Peace has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Pantego Christian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
