Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Jellico's Winning Streak

Jellico fought the good fight in their overtime match against Midway on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 83-79 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Midway Green Wave. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (63), the Blue Devils still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Jellico lost, don't look at Trey Vann. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten boards. Vann's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Dabney, who posted 15 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Jellico smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Jellico moved to 6-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Midway, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Jellico and Powell will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Jellico's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests. As for Midway, they will face off against Pickett County at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
