Softball Game Preview: Bloomfield Cardinals vs. Grand Valley Mustangs

The Bloomfield Cardinals are taking a road trip to face off against the Grand Valley Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Bloomfield barely beat Harding the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cardinals blew past the Skippers 17-6 on Tuesday. The Cardinals' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Grand Valley beat Conneaut 10-7 on Tuesday.

Ady Kovacic was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Kovacic was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Violet Morse and Jenna Poyer did most of the damage at the plate: Morse went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Poyer went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That RBI was Poyer's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Breanna Rowland, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Grand Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Bloomfield's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-3. As for Grand Valley, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-5.

Bloomfield might still be hurting after the 21-9 loss they got from Grand Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
