Volleyball Recap: Newington Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Enfield

Newington faced Enfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Nor'easters fell 3-1 to the Eagles. The Nor'easters were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 1-0.

Newington was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Enfield work for it, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 18-25, 28-26, 25-21.

Nate Parlapiano paced Newington's offense, picking up 22 kills. Parlapiano got some help from Tristan Gorman and his 49 assists. Parlapiano was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Among those leading the charge was Nathan Merrill, who had ten digs. That's the most digs he has posted over his last six matches.

Newington moved to 9-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Enfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.

Coming up, Newington will take on Lewis Mills at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Nor'easters are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Enfield, they will challenge Farmington at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The River Hawks will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
