King extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 9-4. They came up short against the Corona Panthers, falling 19-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wolves have suffered since April 17, 2025.
James Mejia was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Corona, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.4 runs this season.
On Corona's side, Anthony Murphy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Murphy has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other pitching news, Corona gave Anakin Tolman the start and clearly made the right call: he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Tolman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew Herrera, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aaron Springston, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. King will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Norco at 4:00 p.m. on the 30th. As for Corona, they will take on Santiago at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 2.1, the Sharks 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
