Game recap

PUEBLO, Colo. - Pueblo East (Pueblo, Colo.) jumped out to an early lead against Pueblo Central (Pueblo, Colo.) and never looked back on the way to a 51-16 victory on Saturday.

The Eagles scored 15 points in the first quarter. Pueblo East scored on a Marco Perez touchdown run and a touchdown pass by Danny Martin to Alex Mestas.

After taking the lead on a Martin touchdown pass to Mestas in the first quarter, PE led 27-8 at the half.

The Eagles grew their lead to 36 points entering the fourth quarter. Pueblo East scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Martin.

Martin was the top performer for PE. The sophomore running back threw three touchdowns.

The Eagles came in allowing an average of 20.8 points per game this season. Pueblo East held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Wildcats right around the 17.8 points it had been averaging per game.

PE also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 42-18.

The loss comes after Pueblo Central defeated Woodland Park 52-20 last week. The win was a nice bounce back for the Eagles, who lost to Coronado last week, 14-0. The victory snapped Pueblo East's two-game losing streak.

Pueblo East (3-3) will play a 3A Southern game against The Classical Academy next week, while Pueblo Central (1-5) will take on Pueblo County also in a 3A Southern game.
