Basketball Recap: Sandhills/Thedford Knights vs. Ainsworth Bulldogs
After a string of four wins, the Sandhills/Thedford Knights's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 56-47 to Ainsworth. Sandhills/Thedford has struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Ainsworth's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carter Nelson, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine blocks. Nelson hasn't dropped below two blocks for seven straight games. Traegan McNally was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists.
Sandhills/Thedford's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Ainsworth, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-6.
Sandhills/Thedford will take on the Broncos on Tuesday. Mullen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Knights are ranked 86th). As for Ainsworth, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Bison at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd. McCook is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
