Football Recap: Oxford Piles Up the Points Against Murrah

Oxford entered their tilt with Murrah on Thursday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They breezed past the Mustangs to the tune of 42-0. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Mustangs are ranked 183rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oxford's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Demar Jamerson, who rushed for 16 yards and three touchdowns. Another rusher making a difference was Jamarion Pegues, who rushed for 58 yards and one score on only six carries.

Oxford didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Murrah to a completion percentage of just 34.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Dallas Ruffin, Jordan Evans, and Traviyon Dudley, who each logged one passes deflected. Oxford hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.52 or higher in four consecutive games.

Oxford's defense didn't let Schorrard Murray, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Zayvien Cristal and Hud Clark, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Oxford's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Murrah, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Oxford didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 27-21 victory against Starkville on the 6th. As for Murrah, they have also already played their next matchup, a 56-0 loss against Germantown on the 6th.
