The Pittsburg Pirates will face off against the Castro Valley Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Castro Valley will be up against a hot Pittsburg squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. Pittsburg's pitchers stepped up to hand Kennedy an 11-0 shutout on Saturday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 11 runs or more this season.
Ty Thompson was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. JD Wilson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Castro Valley). Everything went their way against Irvington on Friday as Castro Valley made off with a 14-4 win. With that victory, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Anthony Mares, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Diego Mares, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Castro Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Castro Valley and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsburg, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pittsburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Castro Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pittsburg skirted past Castro Valley 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will Pittsburg repeat their success, or does Castro Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
