Basketball Recap: Las Cruces Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Las Cruces kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They came up short against the Los Lunas Tigers, falling 68-45. The Bulldawgs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Las Cruces saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zoey Barrio posted 18 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jaysha Hawkins, who earned nine points and three steals.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Las Cruces will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Pebble Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Los Lunas, they will host Centennial at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
