Softball Recap: Upper Lake Cougars vs. Middletown Mustangs        
        
		
            
 Upper Lake pushed their score all the way to ten on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took  a  14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Middletown Mustangs. Upper Lake has not had much luck with Middletown recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
  Nya Marcks was a  force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she  didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out 11 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't  tossed less than 11  strikeouts every time she's  pitched this season.
 At the plate,  Ruby Wurm was cooking despite her team's loss,   scoring four  runs and  stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.  Keira McCormack was another key contributor,  scoring a  run while going 3-for-4.
 Even though they lost, Upper Lake  didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and  finished the game with 12  strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Middletown only tossed six.
 On Middletown's side,  Brooklyn Wood was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she  struck out six batters over  seven innings while giving up just one earned  (and nine unearned) runs off   eight  hits (and only one walk). Wood was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-5 with two  RBI.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Breanna Pyzer, who  scored three  runs while going 5-for-6. Another player making a difference was  Autumn Clark, who  scored two  runs while going 1-for-5.
 Upper Lake's defeat  ended  a  five-game streak of wins at home  dating back to last season and  dropped them to 1-2. As for Middletown, the  win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Upper Lake will  square off against Cloverdale at 4:00  p.m.  on Friday. Cloverdale's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4  runs per game  this season, so Upper Lake's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Middletown, they are on the road again  on Friday to play St. Helena at 2:00  p.m.
