Softball Recap: Mcdowell Snags 11th Win in Last 12 Games

McDowell had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Erie on Tuesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Royals with a sharp 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Gabriella Deluca made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two triples, and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Avya Mickel was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madyalyn Matlock, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

McDowell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Erie only posted an OBP of .190.

McDowell is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Erie, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Looking ahead, McDowell will head out to face off against Hickory at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Erie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
