Softball Game Preview: Hewlett Bulldogs vs. Roosevelt Roughriders

The Hewlett Bulldogs will square off against the Roosevelt Roughriders at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Hewlett knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Roosevelt likes a good challenge.

On Thursday, Hewlett got the win against Malverne by a conclusive 25-3. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by nine runs or more this season.

Coralia Savin made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Hewlett got a massive performance out of Alyssa Reich, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, Reich is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Sarah Oliveros, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.

Hewlett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt lost 27-16 to Hewlett back in March.

Hewlett's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Everything went Hewlett's way against Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in March, as Hewlett made off with a 27-16 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Roughriders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
