Volleyball Recap: Sierra Vista Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ben La and Christian Diaz

After flying high against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon last Thursday, Sierra Vista came back down to earth. The Mountain Lions took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Green Valley Gators on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gators earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

The 3-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Sierra Vista lost were decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22.

Christian Diaz and Ben La certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Diaz had 17 digs and two assists, while La had seven kills and seven digs. La has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 11 times he's played.

Sierra Vista has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-13 record this season. As for Green Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-18 record this season.

Sierra Vista will challenge Durango at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. After both having extra time off, Green Valley and Cheyenne will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
