Basketball Recap: Legacy Gets the Win

If Boulder wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Legacy, they should've done a better job of containing Olivia Mortensen. The Legacy Lightning narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Boulder Panthers 55-52 thanks in part to Mortensen, who dropped a double-double with 40 points and 11 boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Legacy's points.

Kennedy Martin was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Those six steals gave her a new career-high.

When it comes to explaining why Boulder lost on Saturday, don't look at Megan Matthews. Despite the final result, she went 7-for-16 on her way to 20 points and five assists. Matthews is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 12 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Remi Kingdom, who posted 11 points and six boards.

Legacy's record now sits at 13-10. As for Boulder, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Legacy will take on Vista PEAK Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Vista PEAK Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. As for Boulder, they will venture away from home to challenge Overland at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for Overland: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Boulder has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
