Softball Recap: Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots vs. El Capitan Vaqueros
Academy of Our Lady of Peace extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-17 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the El Capitan Vaqueros. The Pilots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vaqueros apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Alayna Ma'Ake made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.
As for El Capitan, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On El Capitan's side, the result came thanks to Addison Higuera's shutout, as she gave up just six hits.
At the plate, El Capitan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylee Frazier, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Frazier has posted since back in April.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy of Our Lady of Peace will welcome Point Loma at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pointers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Pilots surely won't give up without a fight. As for El Capitan, they will host Steele Canyon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
