Basketball Recap: Owen Takes a Loss

Owen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against the Avery County Vikings, falling 65-20. The Warhorses were not able to make up for their defeat to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Owen lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Elly Wright, who posted seven points and three blocks. Audrey Mercurio was another key player, putting up five points.

Avery County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Adyson Dellinger, who went 6 for 14 en route to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Dellinger a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matilda Carver, who had 12 points along with five assists and four steals.

Owen's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Avery County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.

Owen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-43 defeat against Rosman on the 31st. As for Avery County, they have also already played their next matchup, a 57-50 loss against Mountain Heritage on the 31st.
