Basketball Game Preview: Munster Mustangs vs. Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves

Munster is 5-0 against Thornton Fractional South since January of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Munster Mustangs will head out to square off against the Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves at 5:30 p.m. Munster is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Munster is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Illiana Christian: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Munster blew Illiana Christian out of the water with a 57-21 final score. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 33 points or more this season.

Munster's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Igboamaka Odeluga led the charge by going 7 of 13 on her way to 14 points along with eight boards and five steals. Odeluga has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nina Garner, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 19 points.

Munster was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Illiana Christian only racked up six assists.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Thornton Fractional South's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 68-54 to Marist.

Munster has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Thornton Fractional South, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.

Everything came up roses for Munster against Thornton Fractional South in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 65-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Munster since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
