Baseball Recap: Minisink Valley Comes Up Short

If Minisink Valley was riding high fresh off their 18-1 takedown of Monticello on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warriors fell 4-1 to the Goshen Central Gladiators on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Gladiators: they've now lost three in a row.

Will Burretto was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Minisink Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nik Marrero, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI. Bobby Ayers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Minisink Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Goshen Central, they moved to 5-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Minisink Valley will be playing at home against Cornwall Central at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Goshen Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Monticello at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gladiators are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
